Venezianisches Renaissancekleid / Venetian Renaissance dress

Nach Jahren des Zögerns habe ich nun ein venezianisches Renaissancekleid genäht. Den Stoff hatte ich schon seit Jahren daheim und mich nie darüber getraut. Doch der schwarze Jaquard passt hierfür denke ich perfekt.

Vorbilder hierfür sind mehrere historische Kleider gewesen: die beiden schwarzen von einer Zeichnung von Lucas de Heere, die mich vom Schwarz überzeugt haben, und diverse mit V-Ausschnitt, z.B. von Tizian, deren Schnitt ich großteils machen werde.

After years of waiting I finally began to sew a Venetian Renaissance dress. The fabric was in my store for years and I never dared to cut it. But the black jaquard is perfect for it I think.

Inspirations for it were various dresses: the two black ones on a drawing by Lucas de Heere that persuaded me to choose black, and various dresses with V-fronts, f.e. by Tizian, which I'll base my pattern upon.

Zuerst habe ich den Schnitt so lange angepasst, bis er nirgendwo schmerzt oder zu groß ist. Den letzten Schliff habe ich direkt am Buckram gemacht, das die Versteifung darstellt. Auf das hinauf wurde der Oberstoff genadelt und angeheftet.

First I adjusted the pattern until it didn't hurt anywhere or was too large. The last adjustments were made on the buckram itself which is the reinforcement for the corset. On that I pinned and tacked the cover fabric.

Danach wurde die Nahtzugabe des Futterstoffs eingeklappt und mit etwas Abstand zum Rand angenadelt und angenäht.

Then I folded the seam allowance of the lining inside and pinned and sewed it to the corset with a little distance to the edge.

Der Rock wurde aus drei Stoffbreiten zusammengenäht und hat damit einen Umfang von etwa 4,20 m. Diese mussten dann in Falten gelegt werden in meiner Taillenweite...

Um den Rock am Korsett aufzunähen habe ich festes gewachstes Leinengarn genommen.

The skirt is made of three broadths of the fabric and has a hemline of 4,20 m. These had to me made into pleats in the length of my waistline...

To sew the skirt to the corset I used a strong waxed linen yarn.

Um das Korsett gegen den Zug des Bandes zu stabilisieren, habe ich einen anderen Weg als die historischen angenähten Ringe gewählt. Einen Stahlstreifen, wie er für Reifröcke verwendet wird, habe ich in ein Schrägband eingenäht und erst diesen auf das Korsett genäht - durch alle Schichten, aber so, dass die Stiche auf der Vorderseite nicht sichtbar sind. Da ich keine Ringe hatte und finde, habe ich Haken genommen und gleichzeitig zwischen Korsett und Stahlband mitgenäht.

Man sieht hier am Foto ganz gut, welchen Zug das Band ausübt, die Haken aus versilbertem Kupferdraht sind teilweise schon nach dem ersten Tragen leicht verbogen. Zudem sieht man die typische stufige Schnürungsweise von innen.

To stabilise the corset against the pulling of the ribbon I chose another way than the historically correct sewn-in rings. I sewed a steel band as it is used for hooped skirts into bias tape and that onto the corset - through all layers but in that way that you cannot see any stiches on the outside. I had no rings and would not get any quickley therefore I used hooks and sewed them simultaneously between the corset and the steel band.

You can see on the picture how much pull is on the ribbon. Some hooks made of silver-coated copper are a bit out of shape after the first try-on yet. Also you can see the typical stepped tying on the inside.

Zwei Haken und Ösen für den Rockschlitz und fertig! Jeder Tropfen Blut und Schweiß haben sich gelohnt (und davon sind mehrere geflossen!) und es passt so perfekt wie kaum eines bisher. Ich habe die größte Freude damit! Natürlich, die Rockvorderseite könnte ein bisschen länger sein, aber so sieht man zumindest die tollen Renaissanceschuhe, die gerade für mich in der Fertigung sind.

Darunter trage ich eine Camicia (das Hemd) und eine kleine Hüftrolle.

Two hooks and eyes for the skirt slit and finished! Every drop of blood and sweat was worth it (and there run some of both!) and it fits so perfectly like not many before. I have the biggest delight with it! Of course the skirt front could be a bit longer but this way the awesome Renaissance shoes are visible which I ordered from a historical shoemaker.
