Am Keltenfest in Noreia hatte ich die Möglichkeit, etwas zu färben, und habe mich für Zwiebelschalen entschieden; zwei liebe Freunde haben mir diese über Monate sammeln geholfen.
Die Zwiebelschalen wurden am Vortag in Wasser gelegt, vor dem Färben dann gut 2 h ausgekocht. Gebeizt wurde in Alaun (etwa 2 h), dann noch mal gute 2 h das Material in der Zwiebelschalensuppe gekocht. Das Garn wurde im ersten Zug gemacht, die Schafwoll-Flocke im zweiten. Es war überraschend ergiebig, das Verhältnis aus Material und Zwiebelschalen war bestenfalls 2:1! Normalerweise sollte es 1:1 sein, aber nachdem der erste Zug so intensiv war, beschloss ich kurzerhand den zweiten.
At the Celtic festival in Noreia I had the opportunity to dye something and I chose onion skins; two nice friends collected them for me during the last months.
The skins were put into water the day before, before dyeing they were cooked for at least 2 hours. The bating was done with alum, about 2h, then again for 2h the things were cooked in the onion skin soup. The yarn was dyed in the first draw, the sheep wool flock in the second. It was surprisingly efficient, the proportion of material and dyeing product was 2:1 at the best! Normally it would be 1:1, but as the first draw turned out so bright I decided to do a second.
