At around 1550 a dress was en vogue in Venice that was contrary to any other styles in Europe. All over Europe women wore stays (Italy only padded ones), farthingales, a strict silhouette. Venice wears a dress that looks like a dressing gown. The origin in that pattern lies in the Ottoman empire with which Venice had a lot of trade. It is very comfortable to wear but somehow no one has it for reenactment. You can find the patterns and more information here.

For years now I had a fabric made of Indian silk at home that waited for its purpose. This dress just needs 2 metres whereas most others need 3m so it was just made for that. The pattern is very similar to a kaftan, the sleeves are asymmetric and pointy. At the sides of the lower part you insert two triangular pieces and if you want one another at the back.
Beneath the dress you wore an airy camicia (look at the Sofonisba project blog for that) and maybe a petticoat so you wouldn't show your legs off if the front gap of the dress widens up while walking.

Details: Along the button part and the neck there runs a metal ribbon with alternating acrylic pearls (normally I use at least glass beads but I had too much of those at home and they are not worthy of anything else) and glass stones in golden settings. The buttons are made of real silver (a flea market find) and get closed with loops of  golden lanyard.
